FCPS Celebrates Black History Month
This month we celebrate the works, sacrifices, accomplishments, and contributions of African Americans to our nation’s history. Here, I’m reminded of the courage and bravery of a local hero, Helen Caise Wade, who as a teenager was the first African American student to integrate Fayette County Public Schools. Now we have a moral imperative to continue the fight for equality, equity, and social justice to make sure all children regardless of their demography or geography fulfill their unlimited potential
“I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality…. I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.”
—Martin Luther King, Jr.
