Happy Holidays!!
Another great week in Fayette County Public Schools. Kudos to our Leestown Middle School’s Kappa Klub for holding a canned food drive and collecting over 500 food items! Students donated these items to families in our community to make sure families have enough food during this holiday season.
Everywhere I turned during the last few weeks I saw students, staff, and educators going out of their way to take care of our most vulnerable children and families. From coat drives and giving trees, to food baskets and toy donations, I saw evidence of love throughout our district.
Each year our preschool office coordinates a “Share the Warmth” drive to ensure that our littlest learners have what they need for the winter months. Teachers identify student needs so that every child has warm clothing, as well as hats, mittens, scarves, coats and boots.
Yesterday, the executive leadership team surprised me with one of the best holiday gifts I could imagine — they adopted all of the remaining preschoolers on my behalf to ensure that every child was taken care of. For the team to do that as a gift to me was the greatest gift of all, because but for the grace go I.
Today, I visited Stonewall Elementary School and enjoyed the “Arts on the Pointe” Traveling Company’s performance of the Polar Bear Express! Kudos to Ms. Lippert and our performers for doing a great job bringing joy through the performing arts to our students!
Lastly, please encourage our children to travel during this holiday season by reading, reading, and more reading! Books will take to the City of Embers, Where the Wild Things Are, and to Where the Sidewalk Ends! Let’s foster a community of readers by reading together during this winter break!
