Woodland Art Fair provides entertainment for locals

The Woodland Art Fair has been taking place in Kentucky for many years now and is going on its 40th anniversary.  Numerous people in the city of Lexington come to the Woodland art Fair for its art, music and food. John McClelland actually got the idea from the St. James Court Art Show in Louisville, Kentucky.  However the Woodland Art Fair is a bit smaller; it has about 200 artists and tents, at which you can buy different kinds of various art.  Whether it is paintings, pictures, drawings, hand carved wooden objects, pottery, handmade accessories, or even t-shirts; you can buy it.  This Fair is known nationally, and was voted in the top 200.  Organizers say that more than 25% of all vendors are local to Kentucky; you could be buying art from your own neighbors.

The Woodland Art Fair is a great place to buy unique things that you can’t get anywhere else.  Many people buy things as gifts for others for birthdays or even future Christmas presents.  Or you can go to look at all of the interesting art.  Even if you decide not to buy anything, you can always pick up a card with the Artist’s name and art information on it.  This way you don’t have to buy anything immediately, and you can think about your decision.
The Herald Leader writes, “The Woodland Art Fair attracts tens of thousands of people annually to Woodland Park in the middle of August.”
The fair is so popular; people oftentimes have trouble finding parking spots somewhat close to the park.  The herald leader was open for free parking this year, and they had three shuttles going back and forth from the Herald Leader parking lot to Woodland Park.

“Some fair-goers say attending the Woodland Art Fair is an annual tradition,” WKYT shares.  “While organizers expect the fair to continue to grow, some still remember the first year of the fair 40 years ago.”

The Woodland Art Fair will be coming back to Lexington, KY next year (2016) on the third weekend in August.  Open, Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 5pm.  A bike check will be available at the tennis courts in the park, if you decide not to walk or drive to the fair.
