Marsh discusses time management skills for students

Success in high school is largely dependent on being organized and using your time wisely. While students may not have a lot of control over their class schedule, time management can help them control the rest of your time. Here are five tips for better time management.

1. The first tip for better time management is to be organized. Being organized in key areas, such as your room, car, backpack, and locker can improve your ability to stay on schedule. Avoiding a frustrating situation like looking for an assignment and not knowing where it is. Being unorganized will cause wasted time, stress, and will cause problems in nearly every area of life. By developing skills of organization, you will become more successful.

2. The second tip for better time management is to make realistic goals. Make sure you keep things in perspective, making realistic goals. While it’s good to set high goals, make sure you don’t overdo it. Goals will help with your time management by setting what you need to do. Lists are also a good way to organize your obligations.

3. The third tip for better time management is to learn to say no. Do not be afraid to say no. If you are feeling overloaded, it is okay to turn down a task. By limiting your work load, you will be able to increase to organization and time management skills. Do not take on more than you can handle, if you cannot say no, defer the task to another time.

4. The fourth tip for better time management is to set limits. Setting a time limit for tasks is an excellent way to manage your time, making sure you do not spend too much time on one subject. When something is particularly hard, take short breaks and go on to another assignment so wasted time will not be lost.

By not focusing on unimportant tasks and by prioritizing much time will be saved. Do not focus on small, OCD like things such as highlighting straightly, or perfecting your handwriting. Prioritize work from most to least needed, due dates, or schedule order. All of these things should help you succeed.
