Four HC athletes commit to college play
On Monday Nov. 16th, four HC athletes committed to continue their sports careers in college. The first to sign was Raven Barleston, the captain of the HC volleyball team, who signed to play for Ohio Dominican University. Raven helped the Blue Devils win two Regional championships in the past three seasons. As a defensive specialist, Raven lifted the team to a final ranking of 3rd in the state this year, as ranked by PREP Volleyball.
Next to sign was tennis star Madie Herring, who signed to Roanoke College. As a seven year letter winner, Madie reached the Region doubles quarterfinals the last three seasons. Madie’s signing was an emotional moment, with her father alongside her, the tennis coach. “Thank you for all of your support as I pursue my dream of playing tennis in college,” she said.
Next up was Sarah Parsons, who signed to play softball at Cedarville University. Sarah has played softball at HC for six years, and earned multiple All-District and Academic All-State honors, as well as being a member of the National Honor Society with an impressive 4.5 weighted GPA.
The last to sign was national award winning jumper. Jaron Brooks. Jaron signed for Auburn University over offers from Oklahoma, Louisville and others. As a junior, Jaron earned individual state championships in the high jump, long jump and triple jump events. He also competed internationally for the US Junior National Team in Central and South America, setting national records along the way. Jaron signed alongside many family members as well as the 2014-15 HC Boys 3A State championship track team. “The reason I am able to jump over that pole is because of all of you here at HC,” Brooks said jokingly.
