HC celebrates Valentine’s Day 2016
This Sunday is Valentine’s Day, a holiday that represents love and embraces companionship. It is a day for couples to get together and honor their affection for one another.
Common gifts for high school students include: chocolate, roses, stuffed animals, jewelry and cards. The upcoming holiday is a popular tradition and people celebrate it in many different ways.
For people in relationships, it is a day to commemorate love for their significant other and make those less fortunate jealous. However, if you are planning on spending this Valentine’s Day alone, don’t feel bad. There are many others like yourself, despite what you might see on your social media timeline.
Here are some ideas to make your Feb. 14th “special,” whether you have a companion or not.
- Call up your friends to go somewhere or do something with you; like going to the mall, going bowling, having a sleepover, or seeing a movie.
- Go to an event with friends or family such as Romeo and Juliet at the Lexington Opera House, taking a dance/cooking class or visit the an art museum.
- Relax at home by eating chocolate, playing video games and getting caught up on your favorite Netflix series.
- Invite some friends over and throw a “Loners” Valentine’s Day party. Plan accordingly with music, food, and movies and commend your mutual solitude.
- Gather friends together, buy each other gifts and set up a gift exchange.
Getting presents can sometimes be difficult, but you know your partner better than anyone else. If you’re having trouble deciding what to buy think about conversations you’ve had and what she/he has been asking for.
However, couples normally spend this holiday more extravagantly.
If you do have a partner, typically more planning is involved on this special day. However, it depends on what type of couple you are and how you prefer to celebrate.
Some couples favor staying in, whereas others enjoy going out for the special occasion. All in all, the holiday is meant for sharing love and spending time with one another.
- If you prefer staying in, order a “heart shaped pizza”. Many places will do for Valentine’s Day, if you request it (Papa John’s, Pizza Hut®, and Dominos®).
- Go on a romantic date, an elegant dinner, couples ice-skating or go to a concert.
- Do something that makes both of you happy – get pedicures or manicures, get massages, or rent a movie.
- Gift Ideas
- Candy basket – Put together an assortment of their favorite candy or sweets.
- Gift cards – Buy them gift cards to places where they shop a lot or frequently go.
- Music gifts – Make them a song, buy them their most wanted album or create a special playlist of their favorite songs to memorialize you.
- Clothes (sweaters, cardigans, scarves) – If your companion is into fashion get them something you see them wear a lot that they appreciate.
Even if you’re spending this holiday alone, Valentine’s Day can still be enjoyable, nonetheless it is about communal love and meant to be spent with people you love.
