HC volleyball, soccer and football weekly recap

Volleyball

After a prolific season with 36 total wins, falling just short of a State championship title, HC volleyball looks to replicate that same success this year. The team consists of lots of young talent along with senior leadership. One such upperclassmen is Kaitlyn Hord, a junior who was nominated to be a part of the Youth National Training Roster.

HC volleyball has hit the ground running with two wins in their first two games in regular season play. Currently, ranked #1 in the state of Kentucky by PrepSpin.com (along with a #17 ranking nationally), the Blue Devils defeated #7 North Oldham in three sets (25-15, 25-23, and 25-19). This past week, the Devils were named the channel 27 Scholastic Ball Report “Team of the Week”.

They also defeated Mother of Mercy in three sets (26-24, 25-22, and 25-21), making both victories sweeps, in which the opponents won zero sets. On Thursday Sep 1st, they also beat Bryan Station in 3 sets (25-8, 25-4, and 25-11).

The team strives to always grow and improve to reach their full potential this season. As stated in the Herald Leader, hopes for a public school to win State in volleyball are high, that could possibly be HC.

Their website mentions, “Our goal this year is simple – do what is needed every day during our next several months to be in position to win a state title in November,” coach Dale Grupe said.

As the team continues to dominate, they need support from students. The team plays their next match Wednesday Sep 7th against Dunbar, and hope to see lots of Blue Devil fans.

Soccer

HC soccer continues to fight an uphill battle. With newly appointed head coach Jason Behler, the team competed in two challenging games over this past week, resulting in hard defeats. These tough matches included a tough 0-1 loss to an impressive Dunbar squad, along with a 0-2 loss to a physical Woodford County team.

The team will compete this weekend in a tournament in Evansville, Indiana against some strong opposition.

HC girls’ soccer competed in a game against district rival Tates Creek on Monday Aug 29th. In which they won 1-0 in a very close game, with the solo goal scored by HC sophomore Natalie Carlisle.

Football

After the team nearly mounted an impressive comeback against Ryle losing 28-34, the team will play their next match Friday Sep 2nd against Clark County at GRC.

Also, the HC freshmen team football defeated Bryan Station 14-13 this past week in a tight game against a Fayette County opponent. They team has newly introduced the head freshmen coach Coach Adkins.
