HC girls’ soccer prepares for senior night

HC girls’ soccer will play their senior night match tonight, Wednesday Sep. 28th hosting Region 11 rival Paul Laurence Dunbar.

Presently ranked 5th in the Maher Rankings (a Kentucky and Ohio athletics program), the lady Blue Devils continue to improve their record this season, and are now 10-1-1 with their lone loss to No. 4 ranked Boyle County.

“Senior night is a very special night for the senior student athletes and their parents,” head coach Mebit Aragaw said. “We recognize and appreciate four years of hard work, dedication, support, and help.”

The team is currently undefeated in 42nd district games with victories over both Scott County and Sayre. With only one district match still scheduled, (against Bryan Station), a win could clinch the top seed in the District tournament.

“We want everyone to be on the same page so we can always improve on team chemistry and understanding each other,” Aragaw said. “I am very happy with our team performance thus far.”

The team remained successful with a 2-0 win against Woodford County in their second meeting with them this season. Both goals were scored by sophomore Ashley Chindo, and a notable performance by goalkeeper Morgan Patton resulted in a shutout.

As well, they picked up another impressive win in a decisive 5-0 defeat over Lafayette on Monday Sep. 12th, scoring a plethora of goals along with allowing no goals scored.

More recently, the 5th ranked HCWSA picked up another win against 22nd ranked Lexington Catholic in a 1-0 victory on Monday Sep. 26th. The team recorded their seventh shutout this season.

The Devils’ head coach spoke on the team’s success this season, and hopes for it to continue into the post season.

“We try to achieve our goals by hard work and having fun,” Aragaw said. “Leadership is the key to have a successful season.”
