HC soccer shines in District play
As the regular season comes to an ending, both HC soccer teams attained winning records. On Thurs Oct. 12, both the boys’ and girls’ teams swept the 42nd district, and hoisted the District trophy, for the eighth and fourth consecutive year respectively.
HC girls defeated Scott County 7-1 in the District finals to advance to the 11th Region tournament. The boys also defeated Scott County 4-0 in a shutout victory.
Both teams will play in the Region 11 tournament beginning this week.
The girls team, under head coach Mebit Aragaw ended the regular season nearly undefeated, with only one loss to Fayette County rival Paul Laurence Dunbar. The team achieved a 4th place ranking in the state according to Maher Rankings.
Consisting of eight seniors, the HC girls’ team includes vast senior experience and leadership contributing to their successful season.
“We have good team chemistry, and we work well together,” senior goalkeeper Morgan Patton said. “[This season] we used our individual talents to help add to the team as a whole.”
In the first round of Regionals, the Lady Blue Devils defeated Madison Southern 4-1 to advance to the Region Semifinals on Thurs. Oct 19th against Tates Creek. The team remains confident of their chances in the postseason.
“[Madison Southern] played really well,” senior midfielder Ruby Kate Gray said. “The game was intense, but it was an exciting win.”
The boys team alongside new head coach Jason Behler, finished the regular season with an impressive record of 15-2-2. Recording only two losses, the boys team finished the season ranked 3rd in the state according to Maher Rankings.
Behler remains confident of his team’s chances in the postseason, and they will play in the first round of the regional tournament against Paul Laurence Dunbar on Tues Oct 17th at Lexington Catholic.
