HC Lacrosse begins season in dominant fashion

HC is known for its longstanding tradition of excellence in sports, (volleyball, soccer, football etc.) although one sport in particular might have been unnoticed: lacrosse.
For three straight seasons, the HC lacrosse team has hoisted the Kentucky Lacrosse Association (KLA) State championship trophy, and this season they are looking forward to reclaiming that title for a fourth time.
The team, full of senior leadership, is matched with a combination of talented underclassmen, creating a unique mixture. Many of these players were a part of last year’s state championship team and hold high expectations to repeat their success.
The team started off by going 4-0 (including noticeable victories over competitive teams from across the region such as George Washington, St. Louis University High, and Covington Catholic) and scored a total of 49 goals in their first four games alone.
Known as one of the most efficient and high scoring teams around, HC is currently ranked the fourth best team in the state according to the Lax Power KY High School Rankings this week.
The prolific scoring of the team is led by top goal scorers senior Ben Schaeffer (19 goals) and senior Quinn Fox (13 goals). They have also received help from underclassmen, who have accounted for over 20 of the team’s goals this season.
In a top five highly competitive matchup on Wednesday, March 14, the fourth ranked HC team hosted second ranked St. Xavier, a lacrosse powerhouse from Louisville. This intense game resulted in HC’s first loss of their season with a final score of 8-4. This is comparatively an improvement, as just last season the same enemy defeated them 18-2.
On Sat March 17, HC bounced back and defeated Fayette County foe Lafayette in dominating fashion with a final score of 20-1. This matchup resulted in HC’s first district win, and helped fuel their start to a successful season.
Despite their first loss, the team remains hopeful and is still a major contender for another KLA State championship this season.
