Administrators work to create an improved lunch schedule
With every new year, comes new changes to HC. One of the biggest changes affecting students this year has been the new lunch schedule. This new schedule groups hallways of classrooms into the same lunch period. While, the old lunch schedule had grouped class types (social studies, math, etc.) together. This year, the old schedule is ineffective due to changes to many teachers classrooms. This new schedule, proposed by administrators, aims to leave as many classrooms as possible undisrupted by the lunch transition.
The change has not been perfect for many students, especially in second lunch. Students returning to the green hallways are becoming stuck in the big connector staircase.
“Leaving through green will almost always make you late to class,” HC Sophomore Andrea Hicks said. “Going around the crowd is the only way to get out on time.”
HC Administrators have been observing and brainstorming solutions for the problems that have arisen throughout the different lunch periods. HC Assistant Principal Laura Donovan has been at the forefront of the creation and implementation of both the new and old lunch schedules.
“We’ve communicated with different teachers,” Laura Donovan said, “[and we are] asking them to tell their students to take the small connector leaving lunch as a way to avoid the traffic of the big connector.”
The crowdedness entering and exiting the lunch room has been the largest noticeable flaw in the new schedule. But, this administrator plan will likely fix this problem and teachers seem to be happy with the new organization. The social studies teachers who have had second lunch multiple times especially enjoy first lunch this year.
“It’s awesome!” HC social studies teacher Aaron Cain said. “[We] don’t like having second lunch and love this new schedule.”
This new lunch schedule has overall been incredibly effective for its purpose, which is helping those who aren’t in lunch remain undisturbed. Praise from the teachers has reinforced this schedule as a great new way to organize lunches. With few problems in any lunch this schedule will likely be kept for the foreseeable future.
