HC students and teachers go head to head in the Student Faculty Basketball Game
Many students and staff were surprised when it was announced that there was a Student Faculty Basketball game next week, considering there hasn’t been one for the last ten years. The game will be on Wednesday, Oct 3 during sixth hour. Students are allowed to leave class to go watch the game for a small fee.
“It [is] three dollars for students wanting to watch,” HC Teacher and Assistant Cross Country Coach Ahenewa El-Amin said.
Registering to play for the student team is quick and painless. If a student wants to play, he or she must talk to El-Amin, who is in charge of the event.
“Anybody can come and see me,” El-Amin said, “[and] they pay ten dollars.”
The spots on the student team are first come, first serve, so anyone who is interested needs to go see Room 32 before or after school as soon as possible. The three dollars paid to get into the event doesn’t just cover the game. There will be many other events that are available for students to watch.
“It’ll be the game, the three point contest,… [and] the teacher dance team,” El-Amin said.
The entire event is a fundraiser for the Cross Country Team, so the money raised goes to towards the runners. They are hoping to fund the rest of their season.
“We’re using this as one of our fundraisers, our biggest fundraiser,” El-Amin said.
When students hear about the idea of playing the faculty in anything, they are skeptical of the idea of the faculty putting up any sort of fight at all. But the game this year might surprise everyone. In fact, the faculty team, led by HC Teacher Brian Newton, is working hard to improve before the event.
“I think the close-knit nature of faculty and the wherewithal that we have will lead us to a win,” Newton said.
El-Amin agrees.
“The squad that we have put together is dedicated to practicing,” El-Amin said, “so I think the faculty actually might win.”
There are many students planning on going to the game, which should turn out to be a an entertaining event.
“I’m going to go,” HC Sophomore Brennan Schuer said. “It sounds like a lot of fun.”
