HC Students participate in tennis tournament to benefit DanceBlue
Many HC students gathered on their Saturday off to participate in a tennis tournament to raise money for DanceBlue, an organization dedicated to helping children suffering from cancer and other illnesses. Specifically, the money goes towards the DanceBlue Kentucky Children’s Hospital Hematology/Oncology Clinic. The HC DanceBlue Tennis Tournament took place Saturday, Sep 29 and lasted four hours. Many students came to compete, but HC Sophomore Matthew David Klee and Junior Ifrah Hammad took first place in the competition. They defeated HC Senior Brennan Cegelka and HC Senior Doug Vaughn in the finals with an 8-0 scoreline. Since all of the proceeds from the event went towards Dance Blue, many participated “For The Kids,” as the Dance Blue tagline says.
“[I wanted] to help raise money for Dance Blue,” Klee said.
The earnings of the tournament will combine with other HC DanceBlue fundraisers. Cegelka encourages students to participate.
“I think it’s a good tournament,” said Cegelka. “I think a lot of people should do it.”
Cegelka enjoyed the tennis tournament enough to take part two years in row.
“This is my second year doing the tennis tournament,” Cegelka said. “I did it last year and had a good time.”
The next HC Dance Blue event will be the Dance Blue Mini-Marathon Registration, which takes place on Nov 16, 2018. To apply, one must pick up a form from Ms. Andrews and Ms. Isenhour, who can be found in Room 3 and Room 42 respectively. The returned form should be accompanied by a $25 fee. The deadline is Oct 31, or whenever there are 200 registered dancers.
