Wrapping up the Jan. 9 SBDM meeting
The Jan. 9 SBDM began with discussion of the new ID badges. HC Principal Paul Little discussed what teachers should do with students who refuse to wear their badges. Concern was also raised about students who are on free and reduced lunch and have to replace the ID badge for one dollar. HC Counselor Joshua Edwards reported that middle schoolers will start wearing ID badges to get accustomed to high school. In addition, Little plans to use the EOS hall pass system next year.
The meeting followed with the good news report. HC Senior Katie Demos has made All- State Band for four years. Archery and Cheer have been having successful seasons. There was also a wide turnout at 8th grade orientation. Downtown has also agreed to pay for tables and chairs to test 10th graders in the gym for the ACT. This is the reversal from earlier in the year, when sophomore ACT testing was canceled due to lack of fundraising.
The technology committee reported that they are working on the budget and are making a technology wishlist from the teachers. The SCIF budget was accepted. Fundraisers for track were approved. Field trips for Orchestra, Band, Boys Lacrosse, Softball, and Guitar were also approved.
HC Student Representative Merrick Moore reported that clubs did not participate in making posters that would be put up in the cafeteria and advertised their club. However, ideas of a poster contest or a club fair were produced. Moore also would like to update the HC website with club information.
The meeting ended with talk about Senior Benefit being canceled. Little hopes that there is still other fundraising to help with the cost of Prom. The Prom bid price increase was also an area of concern.
The next SBDM meeting will be held Feb. 13 at 5:30 in the HC library.
