HC boys basketball team enjoys great success.
The Henry Clay boys basketball team has a 24-5 record and is currently ranked 3rd in the state (according to Dave Cantrall’s ratings.) They are playing with phenomenal skill, winning their last seven games. The seniors are all playing at their peak as well, figuring out how to best optimize their game. The team is hoping they can keep this momentum going into the postseason.
The Devil’s seem to have a good mix of talent this season which is contributing to their great play, but most of all they have exceptional chemistry.
“I’m very lucky that I have a group of guys that like to play together and play for each other,” HC boys basketball coach Daniel Brown said. “When you can do that… you have success.”
A key part of this team has been the Seniors who have been performing at a high caliber.
“Your team is only as good as your Seniors,” Brown said, “and I have good Seniors.”
HC Junior Marques Warrick is another important component to this team’s recent success. Warrick believes than the right mindset is an important part to a winning season.
“It starts in practice, coming into a game focused and expecting a win,” Warrick said. “I know if I do good, it will help my team.”
Warrick achieved 1,000 career points at Henry Clay in his Junior year. This is a feat that few are able to achieve through all four years and to be able to do it in just three is incredible. Warrick has worked hard since freshman year for this. HC Senior Keaton Brown as also achieved this milestone.
“It’s a blessing because not a lot of people can say they’ve hit 1,000,” Warrick said. “I’ve been working really hard for this ever since my freshman year and it’s great to see hard work pay off.”
The team is hoping to keep this great play going for the rest of the season and hopefully make state.
“We want to keep this going as long as we can,” Warrick said, “and hopefully make state.”
The team plays at Henry Clay tonight at 8 PM.
