Wrapping up the April 17 2019 SBDM meeting

The April 17 SBDM meeting began with the adoption of the agenda and minutes. This was then followed with the good news report. Two students received the Carter G. Woodson scholarship, two ROTC students received scholarships, and 19 students received recognition in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. ROTC placed well at the Ft. Boonesboro Raider Invitational, and Band received distinguished at performance ratings at the KMEA District Assessment. There was also a successful UK fair and a successful blood drive.

HC Principal Paul Little met with FCPS Superintendent Manny Caulk and has learned that he will receive information regarding funding on April 29. The public comment included HC Librarian Amanda Hurley addressing her concerns about the new writing policy.  The writing policy would soon be taken to a committee to be revised. The SCIF budget and activities were accepted. Concerns about the expensive prom bids were also brought to attention. Fundraisers for DanceBlue, Cheerleading, and Football were accepted and field trips for Speech and Debate were accepted.

The meeting was concluded with the student report from HC student representative Merrick Moore. Moore suggested to find a way to aid students who can’t afford prom. Different solutions were proposed but nothing was decided. Moore also congratulated teachers for making students aware of the upcoming block schedule.

The next SBDM meeting will be held May 8 at 5:30 in the HC Library.
