HC Cross Country team has successful season
The HC Cross Country team has taken noticeable steps towards success this year.
“We’ve been doing much better than we have in the past,” HC Cross Country Coach Tommy Craft said.
This improvement can be seen through the team’s various awards and medals.
“At the HC invitational… on Aug 29, girls varsity finished 3rd place, boys varsity [finished] 3rd place, and boys junior varsity [finished] place 3rd,” Craft said. “At the Bluegrass Invitational hosted by Tates Creek, junior varsity girls placed 1st and junior varsity boys placed 3rd. At the Capitol View Classic hosted by Frankfort High School varsity boys placed 3rd and varsity girls placed 3rd.”
This string of success can be attributed to the work ethic of the players, Craft believes.
“What we [the coaches] are doing may be leading to success,” Craft said, “but it really is the kids who determine whether or not they’re going to be successful.”
The team agrees, citing their work ethic as the primary cause of their success.
“We [the Cross Country team] work really hard,” HC Sophomore and Cross Country member Griffin Sims said, “and these awards are a result of that.”
HC Junior and Cross Country Captain Rob Gilligan hopes the team’s current rate of improvement continues into the post and the following season.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how the team improves,” Gilligan said, “and what we can achieve in future meets.”
The Cross Country team will attend regionals in one week in Bourbon County. All are encouraged to attend and support HC.
