Wrapping up the Nov 13 2019 SBDM meeting
The Nov 13 SBDM meeting began with the adoption of agenda and adoption of minutes. The meeting was then followed with the good news report. HC Social Studies teacher Aaron Cain was nominated as a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction, and HC Math teacher Sarah Zhender and HC Librarian Amanda Hurley are projected to present at a national conference this Friday. Soccer, Cheer, and Volleyball have had a successful season. Four student athletes participated in the fall signing day.
The meeting continued with HC Principal Paul Little informing the council of the district applying for a $10,000 grant to support the new Social Studies standards. The council also approved E-sports competing with KHSAA.
The SCIF budget and activities were accepted. Field trips for Boys Soccer, Dance Team, Cheer, and Band were approved. Fundraisers for Archery, Cheer, and Lacrosse were also approved.
Little also brought the idea of a block schedule for the 2021-2022 school year to the council. Little will focus on communication with students and families during this decision making process but believes that block scheduling is the way to go. It will not be voted on until a later meeting.
HC Student Representative Grace Ramey concluded the meeting with the student report. Ramey reported that student council is working on the gratitude feathers, and Sources of Strength is suggesting on having a de-stress area during finals time. Ramey also voiced her concern about putting more salt in the parking lot and sidewalks during these winter months.
The next SBDM meeting will be Dec. 11 at 5:30 in the HC library.
