Top 3 players to watch in Super Bowl LIV
With Super Bowl LIV approaching, there are many things Americans are looking forward to. Whether it be the Super Bowl commercials, the halftime show or the game itself, the Super Bowl is a true American tradition. This year the Super Bowl is being held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. After defeating the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, January 19, the Kansas City Chiefs secured their spot in this year’s Super Bowl. Just hours later, San Francisco’s 49ers also secured a spot in Super Bowl LIV, after defeating the Green Bay Packers. Although both teams are composed of many great players, here are the top three players to watch in Super Bowl LIV:
Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes, come Super Bowl Sunday, is one player to keep your eye on. Patrick Mahomes is the Kansas City Chiefs starting quarterback, and has been since 2017. However, he started as a backup for former Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith. During this 2019 NFL season Mahomes has led his team to twelve wins and has 4,031 passing yards just this season. However, what makes Mahomes different from most NFL players is that before he even started football he was a star baseball throughout high school for Whitehouse high school. As a quarterback, this baseball background enables him to be able to throw in many ways that are unique to the NFL. Therefore, Mahomes should produce an entertaining performance for Sunday’s game.
Jimmy Garoppolo
Another player to watch is Jimmy Garoppolo, quarterback for the 49ers. Garoppolo has led his team to 13 wins and has a total of 3,978 passing yards this past season. Unlike Mahomes, Garoppolo has been in the NFL for six seasons and was the Patriot’s former backup quarterback. In 2017, Garoppolo was traded by the Patriots to the 49ers where his career really began. Since then, Garoppolo led his team through two average seasons into one great one.
Travis Kelce
Travis Kelce, number 87, is the Chiefs Tight End. In this football season, Kelce has scored 5 touchdowns and has 1,229 yards for the Chiefs. Kelce had been on the chiefs since 2013 when he was drafted as a third round draft pick. However, in past seasons before this, Kelce has led the number of receptions, touchdowns and yardage amongst NFL tight ends. Just as Mahomes, Kelce has played for the chiefs his whole career in the NFL. During his career, he has scored 37 touchdowns, 507 receptions, and has 6465 yards. Kelce ranks pretty high among other NFL tight ends.
