Lady Devils advance to the semi-finals tonight
On March 4th at the EKU Alumni Coliseum the HC Girls basketball team takes on Franklin County in the 11th Region semi-finals at 6:30.
The Lady Devils beat Dunbar on Monday night in a close, well fought game to get to the semi-finals of the 11th region. The lady devils struggled with this familiar match-up without senior guard T’laya Lyvers who was out with the flu.
“Without T’laya, we didn’t have that spark to get us going,” Girls’ coach and HC teacher Eric Sanford said. “We were too loose because we were comfortable with Dunbar.”
This Friday the Lady Devils will look to revenge themselves from last year’s match-up in the regional finals with Franklin County where they lost by two points. Franklin County will be returning all their players from last year’s roster. HC lost six seniors last year and will have a fresh group of players.
“We lack experience,” Sanford said. “But we have talent putting us in a good position to do well in the game.”
T’laya Lyvers will be playing in the game, bringing the team the spark they were missing against Dunbar earlier this week.
“We are going to switch it up a little and try and go in more open-minded,” Sanford said.
If HC were to advance, they would play another Lexington team in the regional finals, giving HC a match-up they have played before.
“Having two teams from Lexington in the regional finals is good for the city,” Sanford said. “But there can only be one team to advance, and I hope that is us.”
We wish the Lady Devils the best of luck in their post season.
