Return of homecoming dance excites HC students

The Henry Clay homecoming dance is the most talked about social gathering since last year’s prom. HC social studies teacher Jody Cabble is in charge of the majority of the planning along with the student council. This is the first homecoming dance HC has ever hosted; it will be on October 1st, 2016 in the cafeteria, all grades are allowed to participate. It is the day after our homecoming football game September 30th 2016.

Spirt week has been in full swing in preparation for homecoming.

“I think this year’s spirt week has been the most successful and is a lot of fun for students to break the social norm,” HC senior Taylor Smith said.

Each grade level here is visibly excited about homecoming.

“I think my class is really excited and is eager to get all dressed up for something that all the grade levels can attend,” HC freshmen Parker Randall said.

Even our older grade levels seem delighted about the dance; this is the first homecoming dance HC has ever had.

“I am so excited all my friends are going and it’s going to be a great future memory,” HC sophomore Anna Gilligan said.

This year’s theme for our homecoming dance is black and white. It is semi-formal which makes shopping for an outfit a bit easier since white and black dress wear isn’t just seasonal, it’s also affordable.

“It is simple and also easier for those on a budget,” Gilligan said.

There is a slight difference on views about this year’s homecoming dance between a freshmen’s point of view up to seniors point of view. Each grade level has their own thoughts about the dance.

Not only is this the first homecoming dance but this dance is a Sadie Hawkins proposal, which means that the girls ask the guys, which takes a different twist on this year’s dance as well.

“I think it’s a fun and non-traditional twist on the normal high school dance,” HC junior Tommy Bennett said.

Homecoming tickets are on sale in the cafeteria this week until Friday. HC staff and students are eager to see each other at the dance and to have a great time at the dance that the student council has worked hard on.
