HC Archery Team aims for excellence
Jennifer Lawrence isn’t the only person from Kentucky who knows how to shoot a bow and arrow. HC has their own Archery team. All grades are welcome to join the Archery team like Jonah Peck HC sophomore and his mom has created the new game day shirts that are ten dollars. They are sold in the front office during the mornings before school.
“There is an aim spot,” Peck said, “and you have to have arm strength which a lot of people don’t know that because they’ve never shot a bow before.”
Just like any other sport, archery competes in competitions on a regular basis. The sport also features a junior varsity and varsity teams, called A and B teams. Throughout the week the team meets in the morning and on Sunday afternoons.
“We have team mates who have been playing for years” HC Junior Katie Consiglio said, “I’ve been shooting since freshmen year.”
Like every sport there are some precautions that need to be taken into account for safety, but unlike football or soccer where major injuries can happen, only semi-major accidents could happen.
“Even though the risk is there we always take extra precautions to prevent those from happening,” HC Junior Abby Peck said.
Fundraising is always needed with any sport or club. Since archery is now classified as a KHSAA sport more people have joined, which means more supplies are needed. Selling their new game day t-shirts have made also created a new fashion trend with no other shirts sold like it. Supplies such as targets, and extra bows, new strings and string grease are necessary to keep performing with experience. Even with the gym teachers allowing the team to use their bows and arrows from gym.
“Arrows are always in constant need because they break so easily, “Consiglio said.
