Recently, HC was told that there would be a staff cut of three faculty. However, the Sept. 13 Site Based Decision Making Council began with the good news report, one that included that HC would not being losing any staff. Along with not losing any faculty, the Jesse Stuart Award was awarded to the HC History Club and HC faculty Felica White, Amanda Hurley and Sarah Zehnder all received the Donna Hornsby Joint Technology Award.
After the good news report, both MAP testing and committee updates commenced. MAP testing has been going well within HC, according to HC Principal Paul Little, and they hope to test students three times throughout the year to track students progress.
HC counselor Lana Bishop discussed changes to the budget for ESS, a program that helps struggling students through tutoring, college prep, online classes and summer school. Bishop asked for 65% of the budget to be used for summer school, as thirty thousand dollars was spent on the 2017 summer school session, three thousand more than their allotted budget. The council passed the motion, with Bishop promising to be back in spring for class scheduling.
Budgets were passed for fundraisers and extended field trips. Much of the fundraiser approval was ventured around Dance Blue. The program’s fundraisers include bake sales, a mini dance marathon, valentine candy grams, as well as many others. The council motioned to change the date of the November meeting to Nov. 1, in order to meet the date for a class list for the 2018-2019 year for Central Office. The November meeting will be discussing classes for the next school year and will be located in the library at 5:30.
