Gallery Hop promotes expression of artwork in downtown Lexington
The Gallery Hop is an event in Downtown Lexington where art galleries open their doors to the public. From the smaller galleries to the larger ones, they all welcome art lovers with open arms. You can not only walk the busy streets of Downtown Lexington, but see the work of local artists. These are just a few of the places that are available to the public:
- The 21C Hotel- The 21C hotel has a light ambience. The rooms are colorful and filled with laughter as well as beautiful and thought-provoking works. The rooms are large and exhibits start almost as soon as you walk in the front door. The galleries are widespread throughout the building, letting you wander rather than limiting only a certain space you can go.
- The Upper Crust Gallery- Though small, the Upper Crust Gallery is filled to the brim with talent. The local gallery withholds impressions of famous art and many exquisite original paintings. The pieces are full of life and color, drawing eyes to each. The owner and artists are lively, welcoming, and have many stories to tell about each piece. This small, unique spot is admirable in its own ways.
- Art at the Cathedral- the Christ Church Cathedral recently joined in with the extraordinary “Paul Johnson –A Retrospective” gallery exhibition. The Cathedral provided food and drinks, as well as the opportunity to buy prints of the artist’s work. The artist also illustrated over 20 children’s books. The gallery has been open since Sept. 3 and will be up until Oct. 29.
- Ann Tower Gallery- the Ann Tower Gallery also paired food as well with exquisite mosaics. The pieces, colorful and intricate, were on display as well as on sale, for Gallery Hop. Some were priced for thousands of dollars while others were a few hundred. The Ann Tower Gallery was also selling their products, available at all times.
- Lexington Public Library (Downtown Branch) – The Lexington Public Library also opened up for the event with the “Latino Blend” gallery. The gallery has been open since Sept. 9 and will be available for viewing until Nov. 5. There was a wide variety of pieces, from decorated masks, to fashion, and paintings. Colors were very evident in most of the art and were very intriguing.
The Gallery Hop is a unique experience and it’s different for everyone who wanders through. There are so many colors and different medias to explore and see. By seeing works that promote the deepest thoughts for you or your companions. Who knows? Maybe it will awaken an inner artist.
