Hey, Blue Devils! You may have heard of Tom’s Squad and the Principal’s Student Advisory. If you haven’t, Tom’s Squad is a group of students from all of the public middle and high schools in Fayette County that meet with superintendent Dr. Tom Shelton each month. The students from Henry Clay in Tom’s squad started the Principal’s Student Advisory last year. The PSA also meets once a month and discusses ways to improve student success and engagement.

Tom’s Squad met on November 11 at IAKSS and discussed many important things. For starters, representatives from the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association came to discuss ways to improve awareness about the nation-wide problem that is heart disease. In order to help the AHA in their efforts, on February 6, students will be able to purchase ribbons, and all the proceeds will be donated to the AHA and the ASA. Additionally, Tom’s Squad presented what the PSA achieved last year and what they have started to do this year.

The PSA had their first meeting of the 2014-2015 school year on Halloween. Since it was the first meeting, it started off with a get-to-know-you BINGO. Then, Mr. Quenon dropped by, and the PSA generated a list of areas that they thought Henry Clay could improve on, which included better communication and more students who want to participate in after school activities. Afterwards, the students broke into smaller groups and discussed ways to remedy HC’s problems. Creating surveys for the whole student body to see what everyone’s thoughts are about the school is on the agenda for the PSA’s next meeting.
