Teachers and students arrange Prom specifics
As the warm weather hits, students anticipate Prom like no other event, preparing themselves with creative ideas about how to ask their date. While this is occurring, sponsoring teachers arrange the plans for prom, happening this year at the Marriot Griffin Gate’s Hotel Grand Ballroom. Many arrangements have been made for the event.
With just over a month until Prom (April 18), the main ballroom will be full of dancing and conversing from eight until midnight. Mrs. Riley, science teacher at Henry Clay, is the main planner of this year’s prom event, and has planned multiple parts of prom, including recruiting a DJ for the night.
“We got a contract with the DJ,” Riley said. “The DJ is going to be Sound Specialist DJ, and they’re from Indiana. They have a really huge setup with lights, and they’re going to have a website where people can request music they want to hear.”
As well as a really well thought out idea for music requests, the DJ will be able to please music lovers of all types, ranging from styles of country to hip-hop to old school rock.
“It’s an entire grand ballroom that we’re using,” Mrs. Riley exclaimed. “It should be a fun time for students at Henry Clay.”
Money for prom was made through Senior Benefit, a show where volunteering seniors made SNL type skits to present in the theatre to the school. Tickets sold for five dollars apiece, resulting in thousands of dollars to invest into prom.
“After we got the money from Senior Benefit, we then got the theme which will be Bright Lights Hollywood Nights,” Riley said. “We’ve ordered all kinds of decorations and things that go along with the theme.”
Bids on tickets cost 40 dollars apiece. Students are able to bring other people from other schools, as long as they are of 20 years old or younger.
“We’ve gotten bids that go with the theme,” Mrs. Riley stated. “Also, we’ve had t-shirts designed that will be free when you get your prom bid as well.”
With Prom particulars figured out, teachers are recruiting staff to watch students as they attend the event.
“We’ll have about 20-25 teachers, all of the administrators, five law enforcement, and then we’re going to have about 10-20 parents,” Riley said.
Prom is only a month away, and students are scrambling to come up with creative ideas that impressive their future date to the grand event. Teachers spend time counting down the days planning the event and selling Prom bids, so get yours soon!
