A Long Walk to Water

Kudos to Ms. Green’s 7th period class at Crawford Middle School.  Students read the book, A Long Walk to Water, about two eleven-year olds in Sudan.  A girl, Nya, who walks two hours every day to a pond for water and a boy named Salva, who became one of the “lost boys” of Sudan.

After investigating this global issue, lack of access to fresh water in the South Sudan, students took action.  Students decided to do a fundraiser by selling “boo grams” and asking for donations to raise $1,000 to buy a well for the people of South Sudan.  Students exceeded their goal by raising over $1,600!

On Tuesday, students had the opportunity to share their project with members of the Equity Council.  I’m extremely proud of these students for investigating the world, identifying a global problem/issue, and taking action.
