I Love My Public Schools

On Friday, support for public education was on full display at the capitol.  As I shared with reporters, this tremendous advocacy effort was about the future of Kentucky – it was about our children.  I commend all of our lawmakers for maintaining an open mind, listening to constituents, and voting their conscience.  Although lawmakers voted to override the  governor’s veto of the budget bill,  funding for public education, especially per pupil, does not reverse a decade of cuts.  The per pupil funding is still below pre-recession levels when you account for inflation.  which means, we still have much work to do to ensure every child can reach his or her unlimited potential.  Kudos to educators for using their collective voice in support of public education!  Please find pictures from this day of advocacy below.
