The Mighty and Distinguished Bearcats

On Friday, I had the honor of participating in unveiling the historical marker for Dunbar High School.  Dunbar High School was the first accredited school in Kentucky that served African American students during the period of de jure segregation.  Dunbar High School, situated at 545 Upper Street, served African American students and families from 1922-1967.  During this occasion, the pride of Dunbar was on full display as alumni filled the gym to share stories about the great teachers, school leaders, and staff that made sure they received the best education possible.  This historical marker is important because it marks the significance of Dunbar High School, as well as, shows the commitment of Lexington to honoring our past as we build a brighter future.  Please find a YouTube link and pictures from this event below.
