The school year is starting, and that means sports teams are quickly commencing into full 2016-17 schedule. This is what they have been preparing all off season.

HC football kicked off their season Friday, Aug 12th with a scrimmage at home against Louisville Fairdale. In an impressive performance from all positions, the Blue Devils defeated the opposition 13-0. All this despite an unfortunate first quarter leg injury for defensive tackle Ray Karl Irving.

With a vast senior class graduating last year, the team has lost some key players, consequently the Devils may rely on younger players to step up and make a difference this season. Last year, the team was knocked out in the second round of the playoffs by Lfayette, and looks to improve that finish this upcoming season.

HC Head Coach Sam Simpson inspires to be a role model to the team, and motivate his players to always work hard and be successful.

“We’re further along defensively this season than we have been the past two years,” Simpson told ABC 36 Sports. “As the season progresses we will continue to get better.”

The team has a lot of positives to look forward to this season including a strong defense which led to an interception, many crucial tackles, along with a shutout, holding the Louisville opponents to no points. This included a crucial performance from HC new comer Jadan Farris. Also showing their versatility on offense,  with a rushing touchdown by Demonta Johson along with a passing score from Montaveon Bean to Terrion Bailey. Their next match will be Friday, Aug 26th against Ryle at LC.

The Blue Devils’ played their second match on Monday, Aug 15th against Elizabethtown at home, where they lead 2-0 in the first half with goals scored by Henry Macfarlan and Trustun Ashburn. However, the game was suspended early in the second half due to weather conditions.

They competed in the Fayette Co. Soccer Spectacular this past weekend, finishing with a record of 1-0-2, defeating Boone County 6-0, with a 0-1 loss to South Oldham, and a 1-2 against Ryle.
