Spradlin details popular date spots for Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Whether you celebrate it or not, the holiday represents much more than that typical PDA in the hallways and sappy couples. A day that is glorified by couples, yet detested by others, has roots in love and should be special. Whether you celebrate the holiday or not, you can always go out and enjoy time with your friends.

The holiday is not just about giving gifts to one another, but rather spreading compassion, love and affection to those you adore. Instead of the usual chocolates, roses and teddy bears, Lexington includes a variety of other forms of “gifts” to partake in this Valentine’s Day.

Instead of the traditional ways, try these venues to spend this Valentine’s Day with the ones you cherish.

  • A new recently opened chocolate lounge, called Chocolate Holler is located on Old Vine Street and serves all of your favorite specialties of chocolate desserts as well as drinks (including coffees, hot chocolates and mochas). It is open from 8am to 9pm and accommodates all ages.
  • Although restaurants book up quickly on this holiday, fancy sit-down restaurants are always a good option. Places such as Sutton’s, Saul Good, and Malone’s are all popular choices and not too expensive. Be sure to make reservations early in advance.
  • Justin Hayward, the Moody Blues’ singer and guitarist plays at the Lexington Opera House on Tuesday Feb 14th. A famous musician playing eminent songs can be enjoyable for all.
  • Going to a romance movie with your companion, such as The Space Between Us is another good option for those who prefer a laid back evening.
  • For all of the die-hard UK basketball fans, Kentucky hosts SEC rival Tennessee at Rupp Arena on Valentine’s Day. The game is at 7pm and should be an exciting and enjoyable evening.

Ultimately, Valentine’s Day is a holiday that truly represents love and genuine companionship. It isn’t about fancy gifts and spending all your money, but instead about the feeling of love that you give and receive. There are plentiful events available around town to celebrate this holiday with loved ones.
