Upcoming Waveland Art Fair excites HC community

The Waveland Historic Site is known for its rich history, but they also provide a wide variety of events for the Lexington community. On Sept. 9 from 10am to 5pm and Sept. 10 from 11am to 5pm, Waveland will be holding the Waveland Art Fair for its fourth year.

Tickets are five dollars for adults and children under twelve get in free. Purchase of tickets ensures free tours of the property, viewing of art from top local artists, children’s access to activities, and catering by HogFathers Barbeque and Kettle Masters.

“We have all different medias presented,” Waveland Park Manager Charla Reed said. “We have metal, mixed media, journals, large sculptural pieces, glass, soap products, jewelry. We really have a great variety.”

Waveland features top local artists and celebrates the creativity of these artists as well as the people who built the historic site. Art will be placed all around the 2,500 square foot area, allowing attendees to wander through its park and appreciate the grounds.

“I would like to see it expand,” HC teacher Kiefer Shuler said, “and have an even greater variety of products.”

Schuler has previously attended the fair and plans to attend this year. He encourages anyone who has the time, to attend the fair. Tours are also included in the price of fair tickets.

“You’ll be able to walk through the mansion as well,” Reed said. “It is an abbreviated tour due to the fact that there’ll be a lot of people, but you’ll be able to walk into the rooms and there’ll be costumed interpreters throughout the house, telling you about each space.”

Waveland wants to show attendees the history of Waveland and the artistry that resides within it.

“The artists we will feature are celebrating the heritage of their creativity during the time period,” Reed said.

Children will also have the chance to participate in activities with the Kentucky Historical Society during the fair. This art fair gives the Lexington community a chance to coincidingly further connect with the town’s history and to enjoy themselves.
