Foreman reviews the Tolly-Ho, a local Lexington favorite

Being a vegetarian severely limits the amount of options you can chose from at any eateries. However, with the ever-growing population of vegetarians and diet-conscious people, many restaurants have started to expand their menus for these customers. Tolly-Ho has been a popular campus eatery for decades, serving hearty meals, specializing in hamburgers, that have satisfied college students and other Lexingtonians since 1971. Along with the ordinary hamburger, they now have a veggie burger to appeal to a wider variety of patrons.

Burgers at the Tolly-Ho come with a large patty and bun, and the veggie burger is no different. The burger is well seasoned and juicy, with little room for complaint. With your choice of cheese and condiments, like any burger, you can switch up the taste of your ‘burger,’. This is a must try for any vegetarian on a budget. Their french fries, crinkle cut and crispy, are greatly over-salted, leaving a pile of salt on the table.

A downfall of the Tolly-Ho lies in its service structures. The customer does not know how much they have spent until they receive their meal, much similar to that of a sit-down restaurant. Although, the food is eaten at a table, no waitress comes to serve you. This makes the experience overall confusing for a new customer, as it is a odd mix of fast food and a sit-down eatery. Along with this, the wait is far too long for a hamburger and fries. The overall atmosphere reminds one of an ideal college dormitory, fitted with multiple TV’s displaying a variety of sports, old arcade games and fraternity paddles lining one wall.

The service has always been nice, readily there to answer questions. Yet they seem too understaffed, as only one person takes and gives out orders.

Overall, the Tolly Ho is a good place for a easy dinner. Their overall atmosphere is laid-back, with many avenues to entertain yourself while you wait for your food. And to top it off, the taste of their food far surpasses the actual price.
