HC welcomes Jamie “JJ” Allen as Interim Assistant Principal

As the HC population is aware, HC former Associate Principal Brian Miller’s final day was August 30th. Miller is now Head Principal of Eastside Technical School. In Miller’s absence, interim principal Jamie “JJ” Allen has stepped in.

“Starting off, it seems like the students are awesome and the faculty is really welcoming with open arms,” Allen said. “That has made the transition really well. The students are top notch and the staff is definitely great.”

Coming in at the beginning of the school year has been an adjustment for Allen. Allen was former Associate Principal of Frederick Douglass. The Director of High Schools handpicked him to fill Miller’s position.

“Mr. Little came to Frederick Douglass, and I was called into the principal’s office,” Allen said. “The Director of High Schools was in there are they asked me to come to Henry Clay. I said yes.”

Although Allen is missing his colleagues at Frederick Douglass, he is looking forward to continuing his administrative career at HC.

“I look forward to getting to know all the students and keeping this the best school in Lexington,” Allen said. “Everybody talks about how great Henry Clay is. I get to experience it and be a part of it.”

Before getting into education, Allen was a real estate appraiser. Losing an interest in this career, he wanted to make a difference in adolescents’ lives.

“I wanted to make a difference,” Allen said. “I guess the big thing is, ‘what’s your why?’ Working with students and helping them achieve; that’s my ‘why.’”

Putting his best foot forward, Allen is ready to make a difference at HC.

“I’m excited to be here,” Allen said.
