UK See Art Day introduces students to different art pathways

As the University of Kentucky’s Art workshop on Oct. 20 approaches, it serves as a way for students to try different types of art and to learn their artistic capabilities. To many, art is seen as an important avenue for students at HC and an important part of their curriculum.

“[Art classes have] actually been proven to raise test scores, develop more critical thinking,” HC Fine Arts teacher Kiefer Schuler said.

The workshop will be hosting a plethora of options for students to decide in what they are most interested.

“It’s a great opportunity for them to do and experience different types of mediums from print making, 3D printing, sculpting [and] ceramics,” HC Fine Arts teacher Kristian Junker said.

Students attending are equally optimistic for this workshop and what it can do for them.

“I think it will open up my horizons on different kinds of art,” HC Senior Rhianna Culp said.

The art workshop takes place every year and allows for new waves of students to partake in and get a grasp of their artistic abilities.

“We’ve done this a few years in a row now and it’s just been a great experience for everyone whose come,” Junker said.

Once students have found their artistic abilities, whether it be from the multiple art classes that HC offers to its students or it be from going to this workshop and taking part in the different mediums offered there, they can use them in order to help them later on in their lives.

“[Art] can provide a lot of opportunities to get jobs later on in life,” Junker said.

Once this workshop is done, students will hopefully have a new appreciation and have a new skill or interest in art that will allow them to be able to help them later on in their life.

If a student is not able to participate in this workshop they are always able to join into one of the HC art classes.

“I would encourage everyone when they’re in high school to take an art class,” Shuler said.
